Attorney Bios


Rebecca Long Okura

Rebecca is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. While living in Washington D.C. Rebecca worked on a variety of projects: contract litigation, tobacco litigation, criminal litigation, real estate law, employment law, taxes and asset protection, and mergers and acquisitions. She held legal positions with The Nature Conservancy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the law firms of Silver Freedman & Taft LLP, and Krooth & Altman LLP. Also, during law school Rebecca represented juvenile criminal defendants as part of Georgetown’s clinic program.

After falling in love with mountains while taking a semester of law school classes in Innsbruck Austria, Rebecca toured the United States looking for a home that had natural beauty and did not require an hour and a half commute. The first day she was in Salt Lake City, she decided that this was her new home.

Rebecca graduated from law school in 2000 and immediately moved to Utah to take the bar exam. Rebecca is in her eighth year of legal practice as an attorney. She has focused on Family Law and other litigation, including personal injury litigation, but has developed a passion for Real Estate Law. In December 2004, Rebecca left a medium-sized family law firm to create her own firm.



Melinda B. Call

Melinda graduated Cum Laude from the University of Utah in Violin Performance in 2000. After working for two years as a legal assistant at a law firm in Salt Lake City, she decided she wanted to pursue a law degree. Melinda attended the S.J. Quinney School of Law at the University of Utah and graduated in 2005, becoming a member of the Utah State Bar in October, 2005. From August, 2005 until February, 2007, Melinda worked for a law firm that offered general legal services where she gained exposure to all areas of the law such as corporate litigation and organization, estate planning, personal injury, family law, probate, and employment law. However, her primary focus at that firm was, and the large majority of the cases she handled were, in the areas of estate planning and family law. In March, 2007, Melinda came to work at LONG OKURA where she continues to practice family law and estate planning. She is an ABA Member and participates actively in the family law and estate planning sections of the Utah State Bar.



Brady T. Gibbs

Brady graduated from the University of Utah in May 1999. He earned a degree in Speech Communications and assisted in the formulation and development of an international nutritional business prior to attending law school in 2003. In May 2006 he graduated from the University of Tulsa as a member of the Phi Delta Phi Honors Fraternity and Candidates Editor for the Tulsa Journal of Comparative and International Law. While in law school, he worked for the law firm of Graves & Barkett and re-visited Salt Lake City for the privilege of interning with the Hon. Judge Ted Stewart, of the Utah Federal District Court.

Brady left Oklahoma for Salt Lake City immediately upon graduating and was admitted to the Utah Bar Association in October 2006. Since admission, Brady has practiced in the areas of business formation and administration, family law, and real estate with a focus on real estate investing, commercial and residential leasing, landlord-tenant disputes, and regulatory compliance. He is an ABA Member and pleased to be practicing in the state he grew to love.



Emily D. Haley

Emily grew up in Springville and Alpine Utah. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Utah and graduated Cum Laude from North Carolina Central School of Law in Durham, North Carolina. Emily spent her last year of law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and became licensed to practice law in Colorado later that year. Emily practiced employment and family law in Denver, Colorado before returning with her family to Utah in 2008.

Emily is experienced in traditional litigation as well as negotiation and mediation. She practices law because she believes in people. She enjoys protecting her clients while at the same time striving for the best possible legal solutions.

In June 2008, Emily joined LONG OKURA where she continues to practice family law and estate planning.



Jarrett P. Macanas

Jarrett completed his undergraduate work at Brigham Young University (B.S., 2004) and attended the S. J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah (J.D., 2007). During law school, Jarrett clerked at the Utah Second District Court, was a summer intern the U.S. Consulate General in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and worked for the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office. Jarrett eventually joined the law firm of Jackman Arredondo, PLLC, where he practiced in domestic law, with an emphasis in estate planning.

Now at Long Okura, Jarrett serves the needs of clients in the following areas: estates and trusts, business organizations, probate, and family law. He provides thorough and advanced planning strategies that enable individuals, families, and businesses achieve their unique objectives. He is committed to giving competent, quality representation to every client and stays abreast of the latest legal developments in his field. Jarrett is a member of the American Bar Association, the Utah State Bar Association, and the Salt Lake County Bar Association.



Lincoln Scoffield

Lincoln graduated, Cum Laude, from Willamette University College of Law. He also graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in American Studies. His practice primarily focuses on real estate-related issues including development, transfer and financing.

In addition to his role as Of Counsel for Long Okura, P.C., Lincoln is the President of Cornerstone Title, a title insurance agency with offices in Sandy, Holladay, and Ogden.

Lincoln frequently volunteers with charitable organizations and currently sits on the Board of Directors of Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and son, golfing and backpacking.
